NIA files charges against UK citizen in Indian High Commission violence case

New Delhi: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Thursday filed a charge sheet against UK citizen Inderpal Singh Gauba in connection with the violence at the Indian High Commission in London in March 2023. Gauba, a pro-Khalistan activist, was apprehended at the Attari border in Amritsar in December 2022 while attempting to enter India from Pakistan to visit the Golden Temple.

According to the NIA, Gauba, who is originally from Delhi and now resides in Hounslow, UK, played a significant role in organizing and inciting the violence at the Indian High Commission on March 22, 2023.

The NIA arrested him on April 25, 2023, after an extensive investigation linked him to secessionist activities.

Gauba was detained by Customs officials at the Attari border following a lookout circular issued against him. During his detention, authorities confiscated his mobile phone, which contained several objectionable videos and photos related to the incident.

The investigation revealed that the attacks in London were premeditated, allegedly in response to actions taken by the Punjab Police against Waris Punjab De chief Amritpal Singh.

The NIA’s findings suggest that the violent protest outside the Indian High Commission in London was part of a larger strategy by pro-Khalistan supporters to further the cause of Khalistan through secessionist activities in Punjab. The charge sheet marks a significant step in holding those involved accountable.
