Pakistan knocked out of Champions Trophy without a win, PM to discuss in Parliament

Karachi: Pakistan has been eliminated from the Champions Trophy without securing a single victory, sparking widespread criticism in the country. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is set to discuss the matter in the Cabinet and Parliament, according to his Advisor on Political and Public Affairs, Rana Sanaullah. Geo TV reported that the issue will be raised in Parliament.

Pakistan’s final match against Bangladesh in Rawalpindi on Thursday was canceled due to rain. The team had earlier suffered defeats against New Zealand and India.

This was the first ICC tournament hosted by Pakistan in 29 years, with the last being the 1996 ODI World Cup, co-hosted with India.

Expressing disappointment, Sanaullah stated that Pakistan spent Rs 12-14 billion on the tournament, but the team failed to perform. “The world is playing cricket, and we have become mere spectators. The attention given to the stadiums should have been given to the team,” he said.

He also criticized the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), calling it an independent body with financial resources but alleged that officials were prioritizing personal interests. He suggested that the PCB should be brought under government control.
