Punjabi-origin truck driver charged with cocaine smuggling in Canada

A 35-year-old Indian-origin truck driver has been chargesheeted after he was caught by authorities trying to smuggle cocaine worth $6.5 million into Canada. Dhanju was arrested by the Canadian Border Services Agency (CBSA) on September 26 last year at the Queenston-Lewiston Bridge port in Niagara-on-the-Lake in Ontario province. 
    The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) said in a statement today that after checking the truck, 202 brick-sized objects were found in it, which turned out to be cocaine. Its total weight was 233 kg. Dhanju was then arrested by the CBSA. On December 19 last year, Dhanju, a resident of Brampton, was accused of smuggling cocaine. 
    Dhanju was released with strict conditions and his next court date is set for February 2 at St. Catherine’s in Ontario. Last month, an Indian-origin truck driver was arrested after authorities in Ontario seized more than 100 pounds of cocaine. 
Manpreet Singh (27) was detained by RCMP officials and formally charged with possessing cocaine for the purpose of importing and smuggling cocaine.
