Putin supports US proposal for 30-day Ukraine ceasefire but seeks conditions
Moscow: Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Thursday that he supports the US proposal for a 30-day ceasefire in Ukraine but stressed the need to work out specific conditions.
Speaking at a press conference in Moscow, Putin said the idea was “right in itself” and that Russia “certainly supports it.” However, he noted that several issues must be discussed with American officials.
Putin claimed that Ukrainian forces are surrounded in Russia’s Kursk region and questioned whether they would keep their weapons or surrender before a ceasefire takes effect. He also called for a mechanism to monitor potential ceasefire violations.
Another concern, he said, is whether Ukraine would use the 30-day truce to continue mobilization and rearmament.
