Russian army terminates services of five youths from Punjab and Haryana

New Delhi: Six Indians working in the Russian Army have been discharged from the army there, due to which they are returning home tonight. Five of them are from Punjab and one from Haryana.

A total of 89 Indian nationals are currently serving in the Russian Army. The return of six youths from Russia comes after India strongly raised the issue.

In this regard, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi had visited Russia in July and raised the issue of early release of all Indians. It is learnt that six youths are returning to Delhi on Tuesday night and 10 others are also expected to reach India soon.

Data from the Ministry of External Affairs shows that 13 Indian nationals have already left the Russian armed forces and 66 others are seeking early leave.

The six youths who reached home tonight are Sajanpreet Singh, Shamsher Singh, Karan Bhandari, Avinash Masih and Shahyad Singh (all from Punjab) and Rajat Gupta from Haryana.
