Second batch of 119 Indians deported from US to arrive in Amritsar tonight
Washington: A special flight carrying 119 Indian nationals deported from the US is expected to arrive at the Sri Guru Ram Dass Ji International Airport in Amritsar late tonight.
This marks the second batch of Indians deported following a crackdown on illegal immigrants by the US administration under President Donald Trump.
Earlier, on February 5, 104 Indians were deported in the first batch via a US military cargo aircraft. Among them, 30 were from Punjab, while 33 each were from Haryana and Gujarat.
According to sources, of the 119 individuals in the second batch, 67 are from Punjab, 33 from Haryana, and eight from Gujarat.
Additionally, three are from Uttar Pradesh, and two each from Goa, Maharashtra, and Rajasthan. One person each from Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir is also on the flight.
A senior police officer, speaking on the condition of anonymity, stated that authorities are closely monitoring the situation, and security measures have been heightened at the airport.
Immigration officials, police personnel, and State Department representatives will be present when the flight arrives.
The official also disclosed that a third flight carrying deported Indian immigrants is expected to reach Amritsar on February 16, though the number of passengers on this flight is yet to be confirmed.
