Seven Punjabi youths arrested in Brampton shooting and extortion case

Brampton: Peel Regional Police in Ontario have arrested seven individuals of Punjabi origin in connection with two shootings at a businessman’s residence in Brampton, allegedly to extort money.

The first incident occurred on November 30, when three suspects—Manpreet Singh (27), Dilpreet Singh (23), and Harshdeep Singh (23)—reportedly opened fire at a house near Montanish Road at 2 a.m. before fleeing the scene.

CCTV footage helped police identify the suspects, and during a search of their residence, a firearm and ammunition were recovered, though the trio had already escaped.

On January 2, the same house was targeted in another shooting. Although no injuries were reported in either incident, the attacks caused panic among the residents.

Surveillance footage linked the second shooting to associates of the initial suspects, revealing they belonged to the same gang.

Police executed a search warrant at the suspects’ residence, recovering additional weapons and ammunition. Alongside the initial three suspects, four others—Dharampreet Singh (25), Manpartap Singh (27), Atmjit Singh (30), and Arvinderpal Singh (21)—were arrested.

Authorities revealed that four of the seven accused were previously out on bail for similar offences, leading to additional charges for violating bail conditions.

The targeted house belongs to an Indian-origin businessman who had reportedly refused to pay a ransom demanded by the group. Police believe the shootings were intended to intimidate him into complying with their demands.

All seven suspects will be presented in court for further legal proceedings.
