Texas man sentenced to death for murder of US’ cop
A jury in the US state of Texas has sentenced a man to death for the murder of Sandeep Dhaliwal, America’s first turbaned Sikh police officer.
Sandeep Dhaliwal, who was the first Sikh deputy in the Harris County department, was killed in the line of duty in September 2019.
He pulled Solis with an arrest warrant for violating parole at the time of shooting. In the verdict, the jury sentenced Robert Solis to death.
Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez tweeted: “We are very grateful that justice has been delivered. Sandeep transformed our sheriff’s office family for the better and we continue to follow his example of serviceable leadership.”
The decision to sentence Solis to death came less than two weeks after he was found guilty of murdering Deputy Dhaliwal.
