Trade ties with India suspended due to ‘heavy taxes’: Pakistan

Islamabad: Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar said that trade ties between Pakistan and India have been suspended since 2019 due to the “heavy taxes” imposed by India on imports from Pakistan following the Pulwama attack.

“After the Pulwama attack, India decided to impose a 200 percent duty on imports from Pakistan, suspended the Kashmir bus service, and halted cross-border trade,” Dar explained in a written reply to a question in the National Assembly on Saturday.

Dar, who is also the Deputy Prime Minister of Pakistan, was responding to a question from Pakistan Peoples Party lawmaker Sharmila Farooqui.

Farooqui had sought information on the trade challenges facing Pakistan’s relations with neighboring countries, particularly India, as reported by the local media.
