Trudeau rejects Trump’s suggestion of Canada becoming 51st US state
Ottawa: Following Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s announcement of his resignation, US President-designate Donald Trump stirred controversy by suggesting that Canada could become the 51st state of the United States.
In response, Trudeau dismissed the idea, calling it unrealistic. “There isn’t a snowball’s chance in hell that Canada would become part of the United States,” he posted on his X account.
Trudeau said the importance of Canada’s sovereignty and highlighted the mutual benefits of the two nations’ partnership. “Workers and communities in both our countries benefit from being each other’s biggest trading and security partner,” he added.
The remarks have sparked discussions on cross-border relations and the potential implications of such a merger.
