Trump announces reciprocal tariffs, calls high taxes by India, China ‘very unjust’
Washington: US President Donald Trump has criticized high taxes imposed by other countries, including India and China, calling them “very unjust.” He announced that the US will implement reciprocal tariffs starting April 2.
Addressing a joint session of Congress on Tuesday, Trump said, “Other countries have used taxes against us for decades, and now it is our turn.
The European Union, China, Brazil, India, Mexico, and Canada charge taxes at higher rates than us. This is very illegal.”
He specifically pointed out India’s high tariffs, stating, “India charges us more than 100 percent auto tax.” Trump also claimed that China’s average tax on US products is twice as high, while South Korea’s is four times higher.
The US President emphasized that Washington’s new tariff policy would apply to all nations, including India. “No one can argue with me” on the tax structure, he said.
In February, Trump had warned that his administration would soon impose reciprocal tariffs on countries like India and China. “Whatever they tax us, we will tax them,” he reiterated.
