Trump appoints Indian-origin Kash Patel as FBI director
Washington: Former U.S. President Donald Trump has nominated Indian-American Kash Patel, 44, as the next Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Patel is set to become the first Indian-American to hold this position in the anticipated Trump administration.
Announcing the nomination on his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump described Patel as a “great lawyer, investigator, and ‘America First’ fighter” who has dedicated his career to exposing corruption, upholding justice, and safeguarding American citizens.
Trump also credited Patel with playing a significant role in challenging narratives around the Russia investigation, describing him as a defender of truth, accountability, and the Constitution.
Patel has an extensive background in public service. He previously served as Chief of Staff to the Acting U.S. Secretary of Defense during Trump’s presidency. His other roles include Deputy Director of National Intelligence, Senior Director for Counterterrorism at the National Security Council, and representation of the government in over 60 legal cases.
Patel’s nomination is seen as part of Trump’s broader effort to restructure key federal agencies if he returns to office.
