Trump welcomes ‘friend’ Modi amid trade tensions, highlights ‘Mega Partnership’

Washington:Amid concerns in NATO and Europe over the new US President Donald Trump, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi met him with notable enthusiasm.

The meeting took place against a tense backdrop, as President Trump had recently signed a new tariff policy and made remarks about India’s trade practices.

However, the atmosphere shifted during their interaction. President Trump praised PM Modi and listened attentively to his views.

Although he defended his stance on tariffs when questioned by reporters, PM Modi responded by drawing parallels between Trump’s “Make America Great Again” (MAGA) slogan and India’s vision for a “Developed India 2047,” which he termed as “Make India Great Again” (MIGA).

He highlighted that collaboration between the two nations could lead to what he called a “mega partnership for prosperity,” combining MAGA and MIGA.

In response to a question about a potential ‘deal’ with Elon Musk, PM Modi remarked that the term ‘deal’ best suited President Trump. The comment prompted a smile from the US leader, easing the tension during the interaction.
