UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak announces general election in the UK
London: British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak announced on Wednesday that the country will hold a general election on July 4. With his announcement, the speculation about the election dates came to an end.
Amid rain in London, Sunak, the country’s first Indian-origin prime minister, confirmed the vote would be held in six weeks.
The Prime Minister will formally inform King Charles of the date of the election and Parliament will soon be dissolved thereafter.
Sunak presented his tenure record to British voters. “I will do everything in my power to provide you strong security. This is my promise to you… It’s time for Britain to choose its future.”
