US President Trump appoints Indian-American Desai as deputy press secretary

Washington: Former Indian-American journalist Kush Desai has been appointed as deputy press secretary by US President Donald Trump, the White House announced on Friday.

Desai previously served as deputy communications director for the 2024 Republican National Convention and as communications director for the Republican Party in Iowa.

He also held the role of deputy battleground states and Pennsylvania communications director at the Republican National Committee, where he was instrumental in crafting the Republican message in key battleground states, including Pennsylvania, during the elections.

Trump secured victories in all seven battleground states in the 2024 elections.

The White House communications office will be overseen by Deputy White House Chief of Staff and Cabinet Secretary Taylor Budowich.

This appointment follows Trump’s earlier selections of Steven Cheng as assistant to the president and director of White House communications, and Caroline Leavitt as assistant to the president and press secretary.
