Usha Chilukuri Vance becomes first Indian-American second lady of the United States
Washington: JD Vance’s wife, Usha Chilukuri Vance, has made history as the first Indian-American and Hindu second lady of the United States after her husband was sworn in as the 50th Vice President on Monday. During the oath-taking ceremony,
Usha, 39, was seen wearing a pink coat, carrying a Bible in one hand and holding her daughter, Mirabel Rose, in the other.
A lawyer by profession, Usha is the daughter of Indian immigrants from Vadluru village in Andhra Pradesh’s West Godavari district.
She is the youngest woman to hold the title of second lady, surpassing Jane Hadley Barclay, who was 38 when her husband, Albon Bakerley, served as Vice President.
Addressing the nation after being sworn in as the 47th President of the United States, Donald Trump praised JD Vance, calling him a “great senator” and “very intelligent.”
However, Trump also highlighted Usha’s intellect, stating, “I would have chosen Usha Vance, the wife of the Jedi, as vice president because she is very smart, but elections don’t work that way.”
Trump commended the couple as “a beautiful pair” and expressed admiration for their achievements, saying, “I can’t believe what they have accomplished in their careers.”
