Various leaders condemn attack on Hindu Community at Canada temple
Toronto: A group of devotees were targeted by alleged Khalistani supporters at the Hindu Sabha temple in Canada on Sunday, triggering a storm.
Reacting to this, Canadian MP for Brampton North Ruby Sahota said, “I am troubled to hear about the recent acts of violence outside the Hindu Sabha temple in Brampton. Everyone in our community deserves to feel safe and respected in their places of worship. There is no room for such actions in our society, and I strongly denounce this violence.”
I have spoken with Police Chief Nishan and have confidence that Peel Regional Police will act swiftly to protect our community and hold those responsible to account, she said adding that Threats to our community’s peace and security will not be tolerated, and those involved should face the fullest consequences of the law.
Meanwhile, pro-Khalistan activists claimed that some miscreants were harassing and threatening Sikhs who had gathered in Brampton to commemorate the 1984 massacre. According to social media reports, when they were chased, the miscreants took shelter in the nearby Hindu Sabha temple, which led to a clash.
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has stressed the importance of religious freedom. Trudeau said every Canadian has the right to respect their religion freely and securely.
People’s Party of Canada (PPC) leader Maxime Bernier posted a video on ‘X’, showing Khalistani extremists attacking Hindu devotees at the temple. He said such an incident cannot deter Canadians because diversity is the strength of the country.
