Vinesh Phogat’s appeal rejected by CAS, No medal for Paris Olympic
Paris: Renowned Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat’s hopes for a medal at the Paris 2024 Olympics have been dashed after the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) dismissed her appeal.
Phogat had challenged her disqualification from the women’s 50kg freestyle event, arguing against the decision made by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and United World Wrestling (UWW).
The dispute arose when Phogat was found to be 100 grams over the weight limit during a second-day weigh-in at the Paris Games.
The CAS’s Ad-hoc Division had initially delayed its verdict, giving itself an additional three days, with the final decision expected on August 16 at 9:30 pm IST.
However, in a disappointing turn of events for the Indian athlete, the CAS has now ruled against her, confirming that she will not be eligible for a medal in Paris 2024.
