Zelensky arrives in London for talks with Starmer and European allies

London: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky arrived in London on Saturday for a meeting with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and European allies, a day after his confrontation with former US President Donald Trump. His spokesperson, Sergei Nikiforov, confirmed his arrival in the UK.

Zelensky is scheduled to meet Starmer later today, followed by an audience with King Charles III and discussions with a group of European leaders on Sunday. Earlier, he actively engaged on X, expressing gratitude to several leaders who have supported Ukraine.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau reiterated Canada’s backing, stating, “Russia has invaded Ukraine in an illegal and unjustified manner. For three years now, Ukrainians have been fighting with courage and resilience.”

“Their fight for democracy, freedom, and sovereignty matters to us all. Canada will continue to stand with Ukraine in its quest for a just and lasting peace.” Zelensky thanked Trudeau on X for his support.

French President Emmanuel Macron also voiced support, saying, “Russia is the aggressor. Ukraine is suffering. We were absolutely right to help Ukraine three years ago, impose sanctions on Russia, and continue to do so.” Zelensky expressed his gratitude to Macron, along with more than a dozen other leaders.

NATO chief Mark Rutte, speaking to the BBC on Saturday, stressed the need for unity between Ukraine and Europe to achieve a “durable peace.” He said he had spoken to Zelensky twice in recent days, telling him, “To bring lasting peace to Ukraine, we need the United States, Ukraine, and Europe to stay together.”
