Chandigarh: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has summoned Amardeep Singh Grewal, the brother-in-law of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, for questioning in connection with an alleged ₹5 crore bribery case.
According to official ED sources, Grewal has been asked to appear before the agency in Delhi on October 9. He was earlier summoned for October 7 but had sought additional time from the agency.
The development comes as the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has begun searches at locations linked to Punjab CM’s Officer on Special Duty (OSD) Rajbir Singh Ghumman.
Grewal is associated with the Punjabi film industry and is linked to Messrs East Sunshine Production Pvt Ltd. He has business connections related to film production and releases overseas and has been associated with several Punjabi films.
The ED’s summons is linked to a case in which the name of the chief minister’s wife, Dr Gurpreet Kaur Mann, had also surfaced. The alleged bribery controversy is connected to a rape case registered in Amritsar.
Grewal has been accused of allegedly demanding ₹5 crore to settle the matter. The allegations had been made by former Punjab and Haryana High Court judge Justice Ranjit Singh, who had alleged that the chief minister’s wife sought a bribe.
Dr Gurpreet Kaur Mann denied the allegations and sent a legal notice to the former judge.
The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) had also taken cognisance of a complaint concerning the allegations and sought an action-taken report from the Punjab chief secretary and director general of police.
The allegations remain under investigation, and there has been no judicial finding establishing the bribery claims against the individuals named in the matter
