Illegal extraction of about 2.32 lakh cubic feet of gravel found

As part of the campaign launched by the Drainage-cum-Mining and Geology Department against illegal mining in the district, a case of illegal mining has been registered against unknown people in the Majri police station after a case of illegal mining came to light in Kubbaheri village of Majri block.
Executive Engineer, Drainage-cum-Mining and Geology, District Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar, Akash Agarwal informed that yesterday the department received information about illegal extraction of gravel in Kubbaheri, on which the department inspected the spot while taking action. During this inspection, it was found that 2.32 lakh cubic feet of gravel had been extracted from an area of ​​about 29 thousand square feet.
He said that due to the fact that no prior approval was taken from the department for this extraction, a violation of Section 4(1) of the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act, 1957 has been found against the unknown accused. Taking further action in this matter, a case has been registered with the Majri Police under Sections 4(1) and 21(1) of the said Act.
According to Executive Engineer, Drainage-cum-Mining and Geology, District Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar, after registering a case by the district police, further investigation into the matter has been started, during which the Revenue Department will get the site marked and the department will also find out the exact measurement and ownership of the area under illegal mining.
He clarified that except Banur Weir, no permission has been officially given by the department for de-silting or mining anywhere else in the district. He said that the department is committed to taking strict action against illegal mining.
