HOLDING OF ELECTIONS OF SARPANCH/PANCH IN THE GRAM PANCHAYATS OR WARDS WHERE ELECTIONS COULD NOT BE HELD ON 15.10.2024 DURING THE GENERAL ELECTIONS, OR WHERE VACANCIES HAVE ARISEN SINCE
Chandigarh, 15 May 2025:
The Department of Rural Development & Panchayats has issued a fresh communication vide their letter dated 14.5.2025 alongwith a Notification for holding the elections or bye-election as the case may be of the members of the Gram Panchayats. Currently, there are about 60 vacancies of Sarpanch and 1600 vacancies of Panches.
Accordingly, the State Election Commission has issued instructions to the Deputy Commissioners-cum-District Election Officers in the State to carry out an updation of the electoral rolls which were used during the last general elections held on 15.10.2024. The qualifying date for registration of new eligible voters has been fixed as 31.5.2025. The revision of electoral rolls has been directed to be held in those wards or gram panchayats where elections are due to be held on account of vacancy.
For this purpose, a Special Campaign for addition/deletion of votes, or amendment, has been chalked out as follows:
- 19.5.2025 (Monday);
- 20.5.2025 (Tuesday);
iii. 21.5.2025 (Wednesday.
The following forms may be used:
- Form I (Claim application for inclusion of name)
- Form II (Objection to inclusion of name)
iii. Form III (Objection to particulars in an entry).
These forms are available with the concerned SDMs, a copy of the same may also be downloaded from the Commission’s website (sec.punjab.gov.in).
State Election Commission appeals to all eligible voters who wish to get their name enrolled in the voter list of these wards/gram panchayats where elections are due, to utilize this opportunity to get themselves enrolled. At the same time, in case of objections or amendments, the concerned may submit the Form to the concerned Electoral Registration Officer, i.e. the SDM, for needful action, on any of these 3 days of Special Campaign.
