The work on construction of College of Nursing will begin in village Thikriwala within this year.
The Finance Minister Punjab Mr Harpal Singh Cheema said while addressing gathering at the 91st death anniversary of the hero of Prajapat Mandal S Sewa Singh Thikriwal. MLA Mehal Kalan and chairman of the Vidhan Sabha privilege Committee Sh Kulwant Singh Pandori and other people were also present and paid tributes to the great martyr.
Speaking about S Sewa Singh Thikriwal, the Finance Minister said having remained on hunger strike for nine months, S Thikriwal attained martyrdom thereby laying down his life for the people.
Finance Minister announced that the village’s primary school will be upgraded into School.of Happiness and declared Rs 1 cr for the same. He also announced fund of Rs 92 lakhs for the Government Senior Secondary School of the village.
He added that the nursing college announced by Chief Minister Mr Bhagwant Singh Mann will soon see its construction being started within this year.
Fulfilling the demand of villagers about laying of one way road from Barnala to Thikriwala, the Finance Minister directed district administration to prepare the plan and send to Punjab government.
He added that the native home of Sewa Singh Thikriwal will be turned into a memorial for which he announced Rs 20 lakhs grant from his own quota. Sh Kulwant Singh Pandori announced that MP Sh Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer too has declared to contribute Rs 5 lakhs for the same.
He said that the underground water level was falling at a fast pace but in Punjab the irrigation water is being made available to fields thereby solving irrigation problems of farmers. He accepted demands of village regarding irrigation.
MLA Sh Kulwant Singh Pandori said that Punjab govenrment has ensured all around development of village Thikriwala. He added that village’s pond has already been upgraded at cost of Rs 77 lakhs. Besides this Rs 91 lakhs have already been spent on the outskirts of village, library and gym have been constructed. Also the work on construction of bridge on Bhaddalvad is going on at cost of Rs 1. 59 lakhs.
The president of Gurudwara management Jagsir Singh Aulakh, stage secretary Surjit Singh, sarpanch Kiranjit Singh Happy and others were also present.
