New water works to be constructed in Chakeria village of Mansa, Aklia water works to be upgraded: Mundian

· Water Supply and Sanitation Minister gave information during Question Hour in Vidhan Sabha

Chandigarh, March 27

A new water works will be constructed in Chakeria village of Vidhan Sabha constituency Mansa, while the old water works of another village Aklia will be upgraded. This information was given by Water Supply and Sanitation Minister Hardip Singh Mundian in response to a question by Mansa MLA Dr. Vijay Singla during Question Hour in Punjab Vidhan Sabha today.

Mr. Mundian, giving detailed information, said that there is a proposal to construct a new water works in Chakeria village of Mansa. Apart from this, the old water works of village Aklia is being upgraded. The tender process for both these works is in progress. This work will start next month and will be completed by July next year.

The Minister further informed that as per the rules of the department, drinking water supply to the remaining villages of Mansa constituency is already being provided at the rate of 70 litres per person per day from the existing waterworks.

In response to a supplementary question, Mr. Mundian said that the Gram Panchayat Water Supply Committee under the leadership of the Sarpanch in the villages maintains these waterworks schemes and 60 percent of the 15th Finance Commission grant is mandatory to be spent on the maintenance of water supply schemes.
