Chandigarh, November 14:
Punjab’s Chief Electoral Officer, Sibin C, conducted a meeting on Thursday through video conferencing with Deputy Commissioners-cum-District Election Officers and SSPs of Gurdaspur, Hoshiarpur, Sri Muktsar Sahib, and Barnala to review the preparations for by-elections to four Punjab Legislative Assembly seats: 10-Dera Baba Nanak, 44-Chabbewal (SC), 84-Gidderbaha, and 103-Barnala.
During the meeting, Sibin C instructed district officials to increase surveillance to curb illegal trafficking of drugs, liquor, cash, and other materials. He emphasized strict action in case of complaints about distribution of cash or goods to influence voters during elections. To ensure free and fair elections, he ordered strict vigilance from 48 hours before voting until the completion of the election process, reinforcement of checkpoints, and close monitoring of the movement of outsiders in the constituencies.
The Chief Electoral Officer directed district election officers to ensure 100% live webcasting for real-time monitoring of polling stations and appropriate arrangements in counting halls. He reviewed necessary measures for polling staff, including provisions for food, accommodation, and protection against the increasing cold at polling stations. Additionally, he instructed district officials to complete timely arrangements at polling stations for voters, including drinking water, waiting areas, quality restrooms, and other facilities.
The Deputy Commissioners-cum-District Election Officers and SSPs assured the Chief Electoral Officer that all arrangements were in place to ensure peaceful and impartial elections.
During the meeting, Special DGP Arpit Shukla and ADGP-cum-State Police Nodal Officer M.F. Farooqui also addressed the district officials and issued necessary directions.
