A full dress rehearsal for the 76th State Level Republic Day was conducted at the PAU grounds on Thursday. Deputy Commissioner Jitendra Jorwal presided over the parade and unfurled the flag.
Jorwal took the salute from the participating contingents in the march past, which included the Punjab Police (Men and Women), Punjab Home Guards, and NCC Scouts (Boys and Girls), led by Parade Commander IPS Officer Akarshi Jain.
The march past was followed by a spectacular mass physical training display by 900 students from 26 government schools, along with a colourful patriotic cultural program presented by students from various institutions, including BVM School, DAV School, and Army Public School (Jalandhar). Additionally, Army personnel showcased Kalaripayattu, an ancient martial art, which attracted significant attention.
A total of 17 tableaux from different departments, such as Health, Soil Conservation, Forest, Verka, Women and Child Development, Agriculture, Animal Husbandry, Fisheries, DBEE, CMD Yogshala, Education, Markfed, and the ADC (Rural Development) Office, highlighted government programs and policies during the Republic Day event.
Shortly after the full dress rehearsal, Deputy Commissioner Jorwal convened a meeting with officials at the stadium to finalize preparations for the state-level Republic Day celebrations. Jorwal also announced that Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria would preside over the state-level Republic Day function to be held on January 26 at the grounds. He would later also inaugurate a Weapons and Tanks Display Exhibition by the Indian Army near the grounds.
The DC emphasized the need for all concerned departments to exert sincere efforts to ensure that the Republic Day celebrations are exceptional. He urged officials to diligently perform their duties to carry out this grand event seamlessly, highlighting the importance of meticulous planning and execution.
Prominent attendees at the meeting included ADCs Amarjit Bains, Rohit Gupta, officials from Indian Army and others.
