300 kg drugs worth Rs 1,800 crore seized in Gujarat’s joint ATS-Coast Guard operation
Ahmedabad: In a major anti-smuggling operation, the Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) and the Indian Coast Guard seized 300 kg of suspected methamphetamine, valued at around Rs 1,800 crore, from the Arabian Sea near the International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL).
According to officials, the operation was carried out during the night of April 12 and 13 based on specific intelligence inputs. A Coast Guard vessel detected a suspicious boat near the IMBL. Upon noticing the approaching ship, the smugglers threw the narcotics overboard and fled toward international waters, abandoning their boat.
Despite the challenging night conditions, the Coast Guard successfully traced and recovered the dumped drugs. The smugglers managed to cross the international border and evade arrest.
The seized substance is suspected to be methamphetamine and will undergo further examination by the ATS. Officials highlighted that this joint action marks the 13th successful operation by the Gujarat ATS and Indian Coast Guard in recent years, underscoring the effectiveness of coordinated efforts in combating drug trafficking along India’s maritime borders.
