8 Naxals killed in encounter with security forces in Chhattisgarh
Raipur: Eight Naxals were killed in an encounter with security personnel in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district today, police said.
Bijapur district falls under the Bastar Lok Sabha constituency, which goes to polls in the first phase of general elections on April 19. Inspector General of Police (Bastar Range) Sundarraj P. “The security personnel were on an anti-Naxal operation.”
Personnel belonging to the District Reserve Guard, Special Task Force, Central Reserve Police Force and its elite unit Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA) were involved in the operation.
After the firing stopped, the bodies of four Naxals, including light machine guns and other weapons, were recovered from the spot, he said. Four more bodies were later recovered from the encounter site. A search operation is underway in the area.
