AAP government announces 50% discount on traffic fines

New Delhi: In a major relief to residents, the Aam Aadmi Party government is set to offer a significant discount on traffic fines in Delhi. Under the new proposal, vehicle owners in Delhi can avail a 50% reduction on traffic challans, though certain conditions apply.

The proposal, awaiting final approval from the Inspector General (IG), aims to ease the burden of hefty fines on residents. The 50% discount will be applicable for offences under specific sections of the Motor Vehicles Act.

Delhi Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot confirmed the decision, stating that the discount will be available for those who pay fines within 90 days for existing violations, and within 30 days for new challans issued after the law takes effect.

This move is expected to benefit a large number of Delhi residents, offering them a chance to settle fines at a reduced rate.
