AAP to observe ‘mass fast’ today against CM Arvind Kejriwal’s arrest
New Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party leaders and workers will observe a mass fast today against the arrest of Delhi Chief Minister. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has been arrested in a corruption case related to the liquor policy and is currently in judicial custody.
AAP leader Gopal Rai said Kejriwal’s supporters in the country and abroad will also participate in the party’s mass fast. “People can observe fast at their homes and support the Delhi Chief Minister,” he said.
All AAP MLAs, office-bearers will gather at Jantar Mantar for a mass fast at 11 am. As police are preparing for a huge crowd, security has been stepped up on roads leading to the protest site. Heavy barricading may also affect traffic in some parts of central Delhi.
The AAP had last month organised a gherao at Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s residence. Several AAP leaders and activists, including women, were taken in buses to different police stations in NCR.
The AAP had targeted the BJP over the timing of the arrest and alleged that it was trying to stop Kejriwal from campaigning for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls. AAP ministers Atishi and Saurabh Bhardwaj said the chief minister was issuing orders from the ED lockup and assured Delhiites that the chief minister was constantly thinking about their well-being.
