Accused Sanjay Rai convicted in RG Kar murder case

New Delhi: The Sealdah Sessions Court on Friday convicted Sanjay Rai, the main accused in the brutal rape and murder of a PGT intern on August 9.

Judge Anirban Das pronounced the verdict after a comprehensive trial conducted by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

The incident occurred on the hospital premises, where the intern was attacked while on duty.

The CBI, which took over the case from the Kolkata Police on August 13, examined over 120 witnesses and presented crucial biological evidence, including DNA samples, viscera reports, and Layered Voice Analysis (LVA), to establish Rai’s guilt.

The trial, conducted in-camera, spanned 66 days. The court’s decision marks a significant development in the case, which had drawn widespread attention and calls for justice.
