Air quality deteriorates in Delhi, NASA shares latest trend of stubble burning in Punjab

New Delhi: The air quality in Delhi is deteriorating as the cold weather approaches, potentially due to crop residue burning in Punjab and Haryana. NASA has been monitoring the impact of stubble burning on air quality for several years.
The map of Punjab from October 25, 2019, displays fire in the fields, which changes annually. The farm fire locations on October 25, 2020, remain consistent.
Sample imagery from 2021, 2022, and 2023 shows similar points on the map, indicating stubble burning incidents in Punjab. The NASA imagery reveals a significant area with a red point, representing these incidents.
Stubble burning in Punjab has been ongoing since 2012, with the exception of 2016. However, in 2023, the data suggests that stubble burning in Punjab is at its lowest level since 2012.
