BJP hails Tahawwur Rana’s extradition, says it reflects New India’s resolve against terrorism
New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday said the extradition of Tahawwur Rana, a convict in the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks, highlights the zero-tolerance policy towards terrorism under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership.
Addressing a press conference at the party headquarters, BJP national spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla said the extradition marks a major achievement of the Modi government and its security agencies.
“This is not an ordinary extradition. It reflects the concept of New India that Prime Minister Narendra Modi talked about in 2019—that if anyone dares to attack India’s unity, integrity, honour, or its innocent people, then New India will bring such terrorists to justice,” he said.
Poonawalla accused the Congress of taking a soft approach to terrorism during its rule for the sake of vote bank politics.
Another BJP spokesperson said Rana’s return to face trial demonstrates a shift in the government’s attitude and mindset towards terrorism under Modi’s leadership.
