BJP leader PC George sent to police custody in hate speech case
Kottayam (Kerala): BJP leader PC George, who surrendered before a court in Erattupetta on Monday in connection with a hate speech case, has been remanded to police custody until 6 pm today.
George appeared before the Erattupetta Munsif Magistrate Court at 11:05 am, and the matter was heard at 12:30 pm. After arguments from both sides, the court adjourned proceedings for further consideration at 2 pm.
George’s lawyer contended that he had neither incited religious hatred nor hurt religious sentiments, arguing that custodial interrogation was unnecessary.
However, the prosecution presented details of his past cases and alleged that he had violated bail conditions, warranting police custody.
Earlier, the Kerala High Court had rejected George’s anticipatory bail plea. Following this, as police moved to detain him, George surrendered before the court.
