BJP observes ‘Hindu Martyrs’ Day’, demands Mamata Banerjee’s resignation over Murshidabad violence

New Delhi: BJP legislators observed ‘Hindu Martyrs’ Day’ near the West Bengal Assembly on Wednesday, protesting against the alleged atrocities on members of a particular community during recent communal clashes in Murshidabad district. The party demanded the resignation of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and justice for two victims killed during the violence.

Around 40 BJP MLAs, led by Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari, held placards and raised slogans such as ‘Hindu Hindu Bhai Bhai’.

They accused the police and the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) of failing to control the violence that broke out over the Waqf (Amendment) Act in the Muslim-majority areas of Suti, Shamsherganj, Dhulian, and Jangipur on April 11 and 12.

The MLAs also displayed pictures of the victims, identified as Hargobind Das and his son Chandan Das, who were allegedly killed by a person named Hajum during the clashes.

The BJP held the state administration responsible for the incident and reiterated its demand for justice and accountability.
