Bombay High Court directs family court to decide on Yuzvendra Chahal, Dhanashree Verma divorce by March 20
Mumbai: The Bombay High Court on Wednesday directed the Mumbai Family Court to decide on the divorce of cricketer Yuzvendra Chahal and social media influencer Dhanashree Verma by March 20. The directive came after Dhanashree filed a petition seeking a waiver of the six-month cooling-off period under Section 13B of the Hindu Marriage Act.
Justice Madhav Jamdar, citing Chahal’s participation in the Indian Premier League (IPL), instructed the family court to expedite the decision. The high court considered the fact that the couple had been living separately for two-and-a-half years before issuing the order.
Meanwhile, Chahal has been directed to pay a subsistence allowance of Rs 4.75 crore to Dhanashree as part of the divorce settlement. He has already transferred Rs 2.37 crore, with the remaining amount to be paid post-divorce. Earlier, rumors suggested that Chahal had paid Rs 60 crore, but Dhanashree’s family denied the claims.
Dhanashree and Chahal, who got married in December 2020, have been living apart since June 2022. The case was filed in the Mumbai Family Court, leading to the latest high court intervention. In a 2017 ruling, the Supreme Court had held that the six-month period could be waived if there was no possibility of reconciliation between spouses.
