CBI raids ED official’s residence in Shimla amid bribery investigation

New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has raided the residence of an Assistant Director of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in Shimla after the officer evaded arrest during an operation on Sunday.

According to officials, the ED officer and his brother, Vikas Deep, a senior manager at Punjab National Bank in Delhi, had allegedly traveled to Chandigarh to collect a bribe from a businessman.

The businessman, already booked under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), reported the alleged extortion to the CBI, prompting the agency to act.

The CBI’s Chandigarh unit devised a sting operation in which the businessman was instructed to hand over a cash bribe of Rs 55 lakh to the accused. Officials monitored the transaction with plans to apprehend the suspects after they accepted the money. However, the Assistant Director managed to escape, leading to subsequent raids.

The investigation is ongoing, and further details are awaited.
