Centre asks UPSC to cancel advertisement on lateral entry

New Delhi: The central government asked the UPSC to cancel advertisements related to ‘lateral entry’ in bureaucracy. Union Minister of State for Personnel Jitendra Singh has written to Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) chairperson Preeti Sudan, asking her to cancel the advertisement so that weaker sections get their due representation in government services.

On August 17, the association had issued a notification through ‘lateral entry’ for the recruitment of 45 joint secretaries, directors and deputy secretaries. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi had in the past criticised the government’s plan as “anti-constitutional and anti-reservation”.
