Company closed more than 71 lakh WhatsApp accounts in India
The social media giant WhatsApp banned more than 71 lakh Indian accounts in November of the previous year. This action was taken in compliance with the IT Rules of 2021, which require major social media companies to publish monthly user protection reports detailing both received complaints and the corresponding actions taken. Between November 1 and November 30 of that year, WhatsApp banned 71,96,000 accounts in India.
Notably, 19,54,000 of these accounts were banned by the company proactively, without any specific complaints.
During November, WhatsApp received 8,841 complaints, resulting in action taken against six of them.
The company consistently releases user safety reports on a monthly basis. Accounts found violating WhatsApp’s terms and conditions, engaging in activities involving nudity, scams, fraud, theft, or actions against the country, are subject to immediate banning at the company’s discretion.
