Congress Working Committee unanimously urges Rahul to take on leader of opposition role
New Delhi: The Congress Working Committee (CWC) on Saturday urged former party president Rahul Gandhi to take over as the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha. The leader of the party’s parliamentary party will be the leader of the opposition in the lower house. The Congress won 99 seats in the Lok Sabha elections.
The Congress Working Committee (CWC), which met under the chairmanship of party president Mallikarjun Kharge, lauded the contribution of former president Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and general secretary Priyanka Gandhi in the Lok Sabha elections and passed a resolution in this regard.
The meeting was attended by party’s parliamentary party chief Sonia Gandhi, former party president Rahul Gandhi, general secretary Priyanka Gandhi, organisation general secretary KC Venugopal and other senior leaders.
The Working Committee has also passed a resolution urging Rahul Gandhi to take over as the Leader of the Opposition. Congress organisation general secretary K C Venugopal told reporters that the working committee unanimously passed a resolution requesting Rahul Gandhi to take over as the leader of opposition.
He said that Rahul Gandhi listened to the views of the working committee members and said that he will take a decision in this regard soon.
