Controversy over PM’s participation in Ganpati Puja ceremony at CJI’s residence
New Delhi: Amid a raging controversy over Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s participation in the Ganpati Puja ceremony at Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud’s residence, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its allies hit out at the opposition parties, terming their reactions as “reckless” and saying “baseless speculation” on the apex court sets a dangerous precedent.
Modi had attended the Ganpati puja held at the Chief Justice’s house here on Wednesday.
In a video related to the event, Chief Justice Chandrachud and his wife are seen welcoming Modi to their home.
The Prime Minister’s participation in the Ganpati Puja ceremony at the Chief Justice’s residence has evoked sharp reactions from several opposition leaders and some Supreme Court lawyers.
Addressing a press conference at the party headquarters here, BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra expressed surprise that some people were trying to play politics even after the Prime Minister attended a religious function at the Chief Justice’s residence.
“When former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh used to have an Iftar party, did the Chief Justice not come to it? “When the Chief Justice and the Prime Minister can sit in an Iftar party, talk, sit at a table when both can talk… It is also a festival, it is also a festival.
“There are some fools allegedly secular who object to such courtesy meetings but this great democracy is mature enough to reject such childish talk,” he said.
