Crowd at New Delhi railway station increases even after deadly stampede

New Delhi: At least 18 people were killed in a stampede at New Delhi railway station last night.

The incident occurred when some passengers skidded off the overbridge and fell onto others while descending, according to a senior railway official.

A day later, a large crowd gathered at the station, with platforms busier than usual in the afternoon. Police have since spoken to several witnesses and recorded their statements.

Indian Railways has announced compensation of Rs 10 lakh each for the families of the deceased. Those seriously injured will receive Rs 2.5 lakh each, while Rs 1 lakh will be given to those with minor injuries.
