Dalai Lama and BJP Leader Sambit Patra Granted Z-Category Security

New Delhi: Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama and BJP leader Sambit Patra have been granted Z-category security cover by the Central government, sources said.

The decision follows threats to the Dalai Lama’s life and concerns over caste violence in Manipur affecting Patra’s safety.

Patra, 50, is an MP from Puri in Odisha and currently oversees Manipur affairs amid ongoing political tensions in the state.

The Union Home Ministry has directed the VIP security wing of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) to provide protection to the 89-year-old Dalai Lama, who was previously guarded by Himachal Pradesh Police.

Under the new directive, CRPF commandos will now supervise the Dalai Lama’s security within India.
