Dallewal takes medical aid, 121 farmers end fast-unto-death after Centre’s intervention
New Delhi: Jagjit Singh Dallewal, a 70-year-old farmer leader who has been on a 55-day hunger strike demanding the purchase of all crops at minimum support price (MSP) and addressing 12 other issues, was administered glucose.
This followed an intervention by the Union Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Department, whose Joint Secretary Priyaranjan visited the Khanauri border of Punjab and Haryana.
Priyaranjan expressed the Centre’s concern for Dallewal’s health, stating, “We have come here to find a way out.” He announced that a meeting involving farmers’ organisations, ministers from the Government of India, and the Punjab government would take place on February 14 at the Mahatma Gandhi State Institute of Public Administration in Chandigarh.
After receiving the Centre’s proposal for talks, the farmers agreed to provide Dallewal with medical treatment. A glucose infusion was administered late Saturday night. 121 farmers end fast-unto-death after Dallewal take medical assistance.
The meeting aims to address the demands raised by the Bharatiya Kisan Union (non-political) and the Kisan Mazdoor Morcha. Priyaranjan expressed hope that Dallewal would end his fast and participate in the discussions.
