Delhi court to deliver verdict in Sajjan Kumar’s 1984 anti-Sikh riots case on January 21
New Delhi: A Delhi court will deliver its verdict on January 21 in a 1984 anti-Sikh riots murder case involving former Congress MP Sajjan Kumar. The case relates to the alleged killings of Jaswant Singh and his son Tarundeep Singh in Saraswati Vihar during the riots.
Special Judge Kaveri Baweja postponed the verdict, which was initially expected on Wednesday, after reserving it on November 1, 1984. Kumar, currently lodged in Tihar Central Jail, appeared before the court via video conferencing.
The incident took place after the assassination of then-Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. According to the prosecution, a mob armed with weapons attacked the residence of the complainant, Jaswant Singh’s wife, killing her husband and son, looting valuables, and setting the house ablaze.
The case was initially registered at Punjabi Bagh police station but was later taken over by the Special Investigation Team. Charges against Sajjan Kumar were framed by the court on December 16, 2021.
