Delhi University student’s turban tossed during scuffle

New Delhi: A Sikh student was beaten up by some students during a brawl at a college here. After the video went viral on social media, criticism of the incident has started.

The case pertains to Delhi University’s Sri Tegh Bahadur Khalsa College. The incident comes days ahead of the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) elections scheduled for September 27.

In the purported video of the incident, a red-turbaned student is being thrashed. He is being beaten up until his turban falls off.

An FIR under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code has been registered at Maurice Nagar police station in connection with the incident, police said.

According to the police, the student, Pavit Singh Gujral, said he was attacked during the nomination process for the DUSU polls.

A senior official said teams have been formed to nab the accused. However, there has been no statement from the college regarding this matter.
