Diljit Dosanjh tops list of South Asian celebrities
New Delhi: Punjabi singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh has secured the top spot on the UK’s ‘World’s Top 50 Asian Celebrities’ list, published annually by the British weekly Eastern Eye.
The 2024 edition highlights Dosanjh’s groundbreaking achievements, including a record-breaking live world tour and box-office success in London.
The 40-year-old star surpassed Bollywood icon Shah Rukh Khan, last year’s leader, to dominate the rankings. The list celebrates South Asian talent across cinema, television, music, art, and literature.
Asjad Nazir, Entertainment Editor at Eastern Eye, described Dosanjh’s achievements as unparalleled. “This superstar has undertaken the most successful world tour ever by any South Asian celebrity with his blockbuster Dil-Luminati show,” Nazir said.
“He has also impressed audiences with his acting and championed Punjabi culture in what was a dream year for him.”
Indian-origin pop star Charli XCX claimed second place on the list, followed by Allu Arjun in third. Arjun’s film Pushpa: The Rule shattered box-office records, reshaping Indian cinema’s landscape.
Actor Dev Patel secured fourth place, solidifying his influence in Hollywood through his multifaceted contributions to the hit film Monkey Man, which he wrote, directed, produced, and starred in.
