Excise duty on petrol and diesel hiked by Rs 2 per litre
New Delhi: The government has increased excise duty on petrol and diesel by Rs 2 per litre, according to an official order issued on Monday.
With this revision, the excise duty on petrol now stands at Rs 13 per litre, while for diesel it has been raised to Rs 10 per litre.
Although the order did not mention the effect on retail fuel prices, industry sources said there is unlikely to be any immediate change.
The higher excise duty is expected to be offset by a recent decline in international oil prices, which had prompted a reduction in domestic fuel rates.
