Farmers protest: ‘How can you block highway, Open and regulate it for traffic’: SC to Haryana government
New Delhi: The apex court asked the Haryana government how can you block the highway and ordered the removal of barricades near Shambhu border, where farmers have been sitting on a dharna since February 13.
The Haryana government had put up barricades on the Ambala-New Delhi national highway in February when the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (non-political) and the Kisan Mazdoor Morcha marched to Delhi to press for their demands, including a legal guarantee of MSP.
A bench of Justices Surya Kant and Ujjal Bhuyan, while filing an appeal against the July 10 order of the high court, observed that “how can a state block highways, it is its duty to regulate traffic”. “Open and regulate it for traffic,” Justice Ujjal Bhuyan said.
