Farmers to hold protest in four states on February 21: Tikait
New Delhi: Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) leader Rakesh Tikait announced on Saturday that farmers will stage dharnas in Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, and Uttarakhand on February 21 to press for their demands, including a legal guarantee of the minimum support price.
Speaking to reporters after attending a panchayat in Sisauli, Tikait stated that a resolution was passed during the meeting. It was decided that if the government does not accept the farmers’ demands, a tractor march will be organized to Delhi in the last week of February under the leadership of the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM).
During this event, a panchayat was convened to mobilize the ‘Delhi Chalo’ march of farmers. The Samyukta Kisan Morcha (non-political) and the Kisan Mazdoor Morcha have been exerting pressure on the government to accept their demands, while the farmers have continued their protest against the central government for the fifth consecutive day.
The farmers from Punjab had initiated their march towards Delhi on February 13 but were halted by security forces at Shambhu and Khanauri, Punjab’s border with Haryana. Since then, the farmers have been protesting at Shambhu and Khanauri borders.
